Why Prolotherapy and what is it?
Prolotherapy, short for "proliferative therapy," is a medical procedure used to treat musculoskeletal pain and promote healing of injured or damaged connective tissues, such as ligaments and tendons. The primary goal of prolotherapy is to stimulate the body's natural healing processes by injecting a substance into the affected area, typically a solution that may include a local anesthetic, dextrose (a type of sugar), or other irritants.
The injected solution induces a localized inflammatory response, which in turn triggers the body's healing mechanisms. This inflammatory response increases blood flow, promote the production of growth factors, and stimulate the formation of new collagen fibers. Collagen is a crucial component of connective tissues, and strengthening these tissues can potentially alleviate pain and improve joint stability.
Prolotherapy is often considered as a treatment option for conditions such as chronic musculoskeletal pain, ligament laxity, tendonitis, and osteoarthritis. Here at Footpoint we use Prolotherapy for the treatment of chronic arthritic feet, tendinopathy and plantar fascial tears.
